Transportation and Veterinary System
I have adequate transportation and my schedule is flexible enough to get to a vet quickly in the event of an emergency. I am willing to work with the FAAR veterinary system.
Adoption Event Participation
I am available to take pets to and from adoption events, or make arrangements for them to be picked up and dropped off. FAAR encourages fosters to participate in adoption events once their fosters are available for adoption.
Pet Hygiene & Care
I understand that socializing and keeping my foster clean is as important as feeding and keeping them safe. Fosters need to learn to be handled, carried, bathed, their paws touched, etc. Getting them acquainted with normal household bustle (e.g. fans, televisions, vacuums, etc.) increases their chance of a successful adoption. Pets that are shy or less socialized may need extra care, handling, walks and field trips.
Pet Health & Vaccinations
I understand that I may have to come to the Pet Rescue Thrift Store for supplies, or visit a vet for routine health checks, vaccinations, or to pick up supplies and medicine. NOTE: FAAR will try to work around your schedule as much as possible but there may be times that an animal needs attention on a particular day.
Home & Property
I am aware that due to fostering there is a great deal of cleanup and there is a remote chance of consequential damages.
Foster's Living Space
I understand that the foster’s living space must be kept as sterile as possible. Felines are not allowed outside under any circumstances. Puppies are not allowed to go on walks outside my property, and are not allowed in the front yard. Parvo and other diseases can be tracked around by roaming dogs, and even raccoons. I must wash my hands before and after handling fosters, and shoes must be kept out of reach to prevent chewing and transfer of diseases.
Foster Health
I understand that there are some illnesses which can be transmitted from the foster to my personal pets, or even to myself. Many of the FAAR pets come from local shelters or hoarding situations, where they could be exposed to disease, fungi, and parasites.
Additional Pets Disclaimer
I understand that a foster could be ill but not yet showing clinical signs of illness, or may be susceptible to diseases they have not yet been vaccinated for. In addition, the fosters may have compromised or underdeveloped immune systems. The best way to stay safe is not to foster if your household members or your pets have a compromised immune system (undergoing chemo, the flu, etc.). It is also recommended to keep your personal pets separated from fosters to prevent inadvertent cross contamination.
Timeline Commitment
I agree to foster for the entire committed time upon accepting the foster. NOTE: We understand that sometimes the unexpected happens, so please notify us as soon as possible if you need to return a foster so a replacement can be found.
All Things Considered
I have carefully considered all aspects of fostering including noise, frequent feedings, adoption events, socializing, and adjusting my schedule for fosters.
FAAR Ambassador
I understand that as a volunteer, I am an ambassador of FAAR and will wear my FAAR shirt and name badge to all public events.
Pet Ownership
I understand that if I (or someone I know) am interested in adopting a foster, I must go through the regular adoption process and fees. I understand that all fosters are the property of FAAR and must be returned to FAAR when requested.
FAAR Mission Parameters
I understand that FAAR does not accept strays or unwanted pets. If you find a stray or have a friend who has an unwanted pet, FAAR will try to assist but cannot take the animal into its care.
Communication with FAAR
I will contact FAAR immediately if anything should happen to my foster, including illness, injury, loss, theft, or any other reason.
Important Consideration
I am aware that because of the nature of foster animals there is a possibility that my foster may pass away.
Adoption Day
I understand that at the end of my care commitment, my foster will be adopted. It will be bittersweet but I am confident that FAAR will do its best to find the perfect loving home for my foster.
